My wife asked me to make a box to store her collection of Nimere perfume. Conveniently all the bottles were of the same size. I designed the box so it could be could be cut out of a 6mm plywood sheet on my CNC router using a 1/8 inch flat endmill. You can repurpose this box simply by redesigning the middle part (the one with bottle-sized holes) and/or resizing the CAD model. • Making a Wrench
    making-a-wrench
I was installing some upgrades for my 3D printer a few days ago. It was rather simple but tedious work involving unscrewing lots and lots of tiny metric M3 screws and nuts and then putting everything together again. A 5.5mm wrench is an essential tool for this kind of work. Unfortunately, I could not find my 5.5mm wrench anywhere. I looked for it in every place I could think of. In the end, I even started to think that my memory was playing tricks on me and I actually never had any 5.5mm wrench ... more

  • Part Cooling in 3D Printing
    part-cooling-in-3d-printing
FDM 3D printing is a tricky thing. You want your plastic to be very hot to squeeze it through the nozzle easily. But as the filament leaves the nozzle and gets deposited you want it to cool and solidify as soon as possible to prevent layer deformation and sagging. This is especially true for PLA plastic. A part cooling fan is meant to do just that. It is virtually impossible to print any fine-detailed PLA part without good cooling. Here are some pictures to illustrate my point. Both parts were ... more

Repository https://github.com/beetlevc/jansjo-clamp Introduction When you print something with your 3D printer or cut some parts using your CNC router it is nice to keep the work area well-lit. Some printing heads and router spindles come with integrated LED lights, but the most of them don't. A simple solution would be using some cheap LED lamp, like IKEA JANSJÖ. This lamp has a flexible stem, so it is easy to direct the light straight at your workpiece. I've been using this lamp for a fe ... more

  • Making a Vintage Toy
    making-a-vintage-toy
Repository https://github.com/beetlevc/climber Introduction Friday night, when I was feeling especially nostalgic, I found a few old issues of a magazine I used to read as a kid. I was browsing through the pages, recalling old days. Then I stumbled upon an article about making a simple toy. It was a funny wooden sailor climbing a rope. I remembered this toy right away. It was in April issue of the magazine and I got it soon after my 12th birthday. Even then I already liked making stuff and ... more

    turntable-made-out-of-an-old-hdd
Repository https://github.com/beetlevc/turntable Introduction Modern hard drives is a miracle of technology. Many of you probably have already tried disassembling old hard drives before. It's common knowledge that you can get a pair of powerful neodymium magnets out of an old hard drive, but everything else usually goes straight to trash. Today I'll show you how to make better use of your old trusty hard drive, so it could serve you longer. I'll show you how to transform a broken HDD into a t ... more
